San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

A collection of for-purpose businesses dedicated to service, hospitality, adventure, and real food. At the Casa Oro Group, we use business as a tool to regenerate human and environmental abundance. This mission was born out of an understanding that tourism growth and development often leave harmful side effects for cultures, communities, and the environment. I know we can do better than this, I aim to do development differently, in a regenerative way, inspired by nature.

In my role as the CEO and Co-Founder, I am responsible for all aspects of vision, strategy, execution, and performance, down to the details. I learned the greatest lever in creating impact and driving results is through the development of my team’s human potential.

I took time to study and empathize with existing norms associated with the workplace culture in Nicaragua, and used these insights to designย a more dignified place to work. Everyone hugs each other, people in all positions are respected, and their opinions are valued. Casa Oro Group is one of the most sought after places to work in Nicaragua. I have implemented a horizontal management structure, systems for routine tasks, and deep-rooted organizational values that propel this business forward. I have designed myself out of day-to-day activities.

I modified the entire operations process of the business, moving away from a paper system to an electronic system with paper controls, resulting in more robust and useful tools for reporting and metrics. These improvements have aided tremendously in transparency and strategic decision making.

This is one of a handful of expat-owned businesses in Nicaragua that had the fortitude to remain operational and take care of its team during the 2018 political crisis and the current COVID-19 pandemic. This resiliency is a result of streamlined operations where every team member is trained with cross-functional capabilities and a bias towards taking initiative.

My greatest joy in this role is when I see team members courageously doing something they never thought themselves possible before.
