Heading for the hills

Dear amigo, We’re heading north on the Pan-American Highway toward Managua. The tuk-tuk wagons and occasional cattle herds slow our progress, but we hope for a safe arrival within the hour. Once in Managua, Müffa will spend the better part of the day renewing his resident visa while I post up and work from a food court at a shopping mall. Once our business in the capital city is wrapped up we’ll head farther north into the coffee-growing region of the country, just outside of Matagalpa, for a writing retreat…read more

The Book: Word Engineering

Dear Amigo, I’m on the third floor in my corner office here at Casa Oro (Mom, I made it!). The power’s out, so I’m writing this first draft by pen and paper. Your Turn Challenge Day 7: What are you taking with you from this Challenge? I did it. I wasn’t sure if it would be possible. Its day seven, the final post of the Your Turn Challenge. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. One small step at a time. Once I accepted the challenge, I made it a daily priority. I gave myself time. Its something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. The challenge gave me just enough structure to make it fly. The…read more

Why am I doing the Your Turn Challenge?

Your Turn Challenge Day 1: Why are you doing the Your Turn Challenge? I need help. I’m scared. What if I’m not good enough? The backstory and the context is so involved and lengthy. Whose got enough time to even read this? What will this say about me as a person? What will my community think of me? My family? My parents? Will they be proud or will they cringe? I’m tired of hiding. Enough already, I want to be naked in front of the world. I don’ I’ve battled with developing…read more
