If you haven’t noticed it yet, corporations have taken over our world. They permeate every aspect of our living and being and it is seemingly impossible to live without them. We have given them the power to control more than they should, yet most of us don’t even realize it.

In the traditional definition of a corporation, they exist to maximize value for the shareholder. Practically speaking, this translates to attempting to earn as much money as possible with little regard for human condition. Despite not being natural persons, corporations are recognized by the law to have rights and responsibilities like natural persons (“people”). So they can act like people and they’ve gone on to accumulate more power than the people. Generally, however, corporations don’t have human consciences, so they’re not very effective when it comes to operating with the greater good in mind, they’re pretty selfish by design.

Good news though, we can change all of this and make it better. Corporations exist and are powerful because consumers vote with their dollars to support them. We give them permission to exist with our buying behaviors. Ultimately, you and I are the ones who decide where to spend our money and we can chose something better. There’s these new organizations springing up like Umair Haque talks about in the video above that create ‘sustainable and shared prosperity’ We can all choose to support these organizations that do have human consciences and have sustainability, the environment and community involvement ingrained into the DNA of their organizations. These are the corporations of tomorrow that will drive us forward and give the power back to each and every one of us.

Come on, let’s do something about it. Vote with your dollars and buy positively today.
